My Journey

Melanie Stone

I am a 32 year old pre-medical student living in Southern California. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton. I currently live in downtown Fullerton with my beautiful wife Paige and our puppy Millie. I have worked in an Emergency Room as a Medical Scribe and Tech for 3 years in Riverside, CA. My dreams of becoming a physician began in my early twenties and it was after working the in ER that I truly fell in love with medicine.

Currently I am studying for the MCAT which I plan to take January 2023 while preparing my application for medical school. I am planning to apply to UAG Medical School in Guadalajara, Mexico with hopes of matriculating in Fall 2023. It is an incredibly exciting and terrifying time for me but I feel like it is all happening!

When exploring UAG I was surprised to find very little resources about the school from a student’s account. It is scary to move to a different country without knowing how exactly life may be. I hope I can document my journey to help future students who are interested in international medical school.

  • Sharing a Unique Experience

    I want those who dream to go to medical school have the ability to watch someone else go through it. I am not a student boasting a 4.0 at age 24 and showing the tens of schools who offered me admission. I am a non-traditional student seeking to navigate medical school in my thirties with a wife in another country. I am excited to share all that I will learn and to help anyway I can.

  • Transparency

    The pre-med process can be confusing, overwhelming, and damn near terrifying. I am sure that actually matriculating into medical school will be an even scarier beast. I want to write it all. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I know in the end I will always end up in the place I am meant to be and work everyday to have the grace to accept that.

  • Reaching Out

    I am hoping that through this blog I will be able to continue to connect to other students or current physicians who can offer advice.
